My good friends in Edmonton are blessed with a wonderful bakery that makes delicate French desserts and pastries. I had the fortune of receiving some this past week, and boy are they ever a treat.
The soft chewy texture of the macaroon, once you bite into it is marshmallowy-goodness. I do realize this is not the most refined or descriptive, but I am at a loss for what words to use.
There were four flavours: Chocolate, Pistachio, Salty Caramel, and Espresso.
The first time I tried these, was at the bar jam in March and they were delightful! Best ones I’ve tasted in North America for sure! Comparable to the ones in Paris – mind you, even the McCafes over there have macaroons.
Pistachio was creamy in the middle, reminiscent of a green-tea ice cream or pistachio gelato. Mouthfeel is to die for!
Salty caramel is soft like whipped butter creamed between the two macaroons.
Finally, Espresso, definitely my favourite… if not only for the fact that it is coffee, but it is rich and smooth with a hint of espresso bitterness balanced perfectly with the sweetness. This is heavenly goodness.
